  • Les Produits du Terroir
    In Sainte-Maxime : Olive oil is celebrated in November,and upon booking, you can visit the "Oliveraie de la Pierre Plantée" , with over 2500 olive trees which produce about 40 tons of olives per year. Oil for sale on the spot. Mills are still operational in Callas, Flayosc, Tourtour, Cotignac, Salernes. The oil season lasts from November through January.

    Truffles or Rabasse:
    This deliciously luscious mushroom is to be found in the northern part of le Var, where it grows beneath the earth under truffle oak trees. The Var area produces 20% of the whole french production. IN AUPS (the 3rd producer in France), the truffle market takes place every Thursday from November through March. Truffles are celebrated on the 4th Sunday of January. The season lasts from October the 15th to March the 10th.

    Honey and other beehive products:
    The Var honey is especially appreciated by connoisseurs for its richly distinctive flavours. Lavander honey is unique in the world and of unparalleled delicacy, it represents half of the local production, and is used for making dark nougat, gingerbread , mead "the gods beverage" or sweets. Beekeepers also collect pollen, honeydew and beeswax. To be seen: the beehives of la Motte, Vidauban, the honey house at la Garde Freinet,and the bee house at Brignoles. Honey is celebrated at Roquebrune in October.

    Chestnuts :
    The Maures chestnut forest covers over 2500 hectares spread over the villages of Collobrières, la Garde-Freinet, les Mayons, Pignans and Gonfaron. It is strictly forbidden to pick chestnuts off trees or the ground. Specialities of iced chestnuts, jam, chestnut cream, and ice-cream. Chestnuts are celebrated every Sunday from October the 15th to November the 15th.

    Wine :
    Making vintage wine is the result of 4 different elements: the soil, the climate,blending different varieties of wine and know-how. Fruity dry rose is famous, but wine growers can also show their talent through white and red wine. Do visit:The House of Wine at les Arcs, the cellars and domains of le Plan de la Tour, Gassin and Ramatuelle. Wine celebration takes place on September the 1st in Sainte-Maxime, cooked wine celebration at le Plan de la Tour at the end of September.

    Gastronomy week with local products takes place in October.
